Stamford Hardwood Window Sill Restoration – Bath Row, Stamford
Rotten bay window sills can quickly become a bigger problem if left untreated. For this project in Bath Row, Stamford, we were asked by a local estate agent to restore two badly deteriorated bay window fronts rather than replace the entire windows.
What We Did
✅ Carefully removed all rotten timber from the original window sill
✅ Replaced damaged sections using durable Sapele hardwood
✅ Screwed and resin-fixed the new timber securely into the existing window frame for long-term strength
✅ Applied specialist wood treatment to protect against future rot and moisture damage
✅ Prepared the repair ready for painting and finishing
The aim was simple: save the original structure and make it last.
Sapele hardwood is a great choice for exterior timber repairs because of its strength and resistance to weathering. Once treated and properly decorated, this type of repair can comfortably last 20 years or more.
Why Repair Instead of Replace?
In many cases, replacing the entire window frame is unnecessary and expensive. If the damage is isolated to the sill area, a professional hardwood splice repair can restore strength, improve appearance, and save thousands compared to full replacement.
For older buildings in Stamford, retaining original features also helps preserve character.
The Key Aftercare Tip
A quality repair is only half the job. Proper preparation, priming, and painting afterwards are essential to keep moisture out and maximise lifespan. A good decorator makes all the difference.
That “20 years easily” line is strong for trust. I’d keep it, but phrase it like:
“With proper decoration and maintenance afterwards, we’d expect this repair to last 20 years or more.”
